Everyone is doing the half moon/reverse French. They have been for a while. So, here I am, late to the nail party offering up my small fingernails. As a tiny fingered woman I’ve discovered it’s nigh on impossible to get the right ratio of moon to ‘cure but I tried my best. All you need is some polish and some ring reinforcements, or circular stickers. First two attempts haven’t been too bad, so it can only get better. Next up, pink and red. Clashtastic.

Hair advice from my heroes

I struggle with my hair. It’s long and I never know what to do with it, so I thought I’d take some advice from a few of my heroes. So far, so good. Bruce Springsteen likes a good plait, Tom Waits is a topknot fan and David Lynch thinks you can’t beat a bit of backcombing.

No, they’re not but let’s pretend. It’s not summer anymore. No, it’s not. Lalalalalala I have my fingers in my ears and I’m happy to move on. Autumn is so much better for slinging clothes on your back. So much better. And winter? Don’t get me started about winter…

Frayed around the edges

While we’re all waiting for Sherlock to open the door at 221b Baker Street the BBC has given us something else to chew on.

The Hour is austere, brought to you via the Brannan filter on our Instagram app, all colours hunkering down together, unremarkable bar the red, blue and teal green that scratch the dull glassy reality of it all. The post-war reality of it all.

This isn’t Mad Men, at least not yet. Bosoms aren’t quite heaving, the leather watch straps are dull and worn, the shoes matte. It’s all in the detail, the pulled thread. For Bel the material is thick, rubs against the skin and is ready to be worn. The cut is tailored but frayed, fitted and made to work – the only way a hand will find its way up that skirt is if those heavy buttons are undone with slow, considered fingers.

Go Bel! Our woman in the drab man’s world, slightly frayed around the edges with eyes shining. Just don’t drink too much whiskey…

Seriously considering another bike. Seriously. It might help if I actually rode my current bike and then I could justify adding another bike to the assortment that’s piling up downstairs. Bikes around here are like gremlins but this one could be my Gizmo.

It was a photo on Instagram from Nice Brew Design that started this all. Bad Instagram.
